"DynamicWeight" (dynamicweight)

So... I bought a Carista bluetooth adapter to turn off the seat belt ding in my Tacoma. On the way to work today I was playing with the Torque app (until I realized playing with the app while driving was kind of dangerous and stopped). I know someone of you must use it. Any fancy tricks or tips I should know about?
One interesting thing I found was the timing advance read out. I guess my engine changes timing on the fly?? I will have to look into this more. It was jumping around all over the place.

Somewhere in the settings there’s a HUD mode you can toggle. It mirrors the screen so you can put the phone up on the dash at night and the reflection on the windshield makes a heads up display.

pretty much all modern engines change their timing on the fly, but its cool that you get to see it. My brother added an android tab to his subi with the torque app, its pretty slick...wish I had room for something like that.

There are some things you can download to get readings particular to your make, good stuff.

Did you purchase the paid version? I generally just use the free version to check OBD codes and its also useful for coolant temperature if I am diagnosing an issue (especially since my gauge is a glorified idiot light). I finally bought an OBD extension cable since my port is in a terrible spot for actually driving around with the reader plugged in. But I havent gotten around to finding a place to permanently keep the thing. I have also been meaning to buy the paid version of Torque since it is supposed to be a bit more useful.

Seeing the possibilities, I’m now thinking about updating the center stack. Right now I have the base head unit in there.
Is all of it being run off a phone? I need to know more about this voodoo!

Yeah, I figured real time timing was some standard feature I had just missed. It was crazy watching it jump around. It would go as much as 50 degrees advance! And once I saw it go 2 degrees retard.
That is too freaking cool with the android. Really makes me wish Toyota would quit it’s own lesser infotainment and just take a ride on the android train instead. Automakers are the absolute worst when it comes to proprietary BS.

I downloaded the free version to try it. Luckily my OBD port is in a great spot so I can leave the adapter in there all the time. Yeah, I found the coolant read out. Very cool to see my truck doesn’t actually sit completely rock steady at some temperature (I figured as much, but it’s nice to get confirmation)

I have it but mostly just use it to read codes.

The coolant temperature is especially useful while you are working under the hood (bleeding the system for example) and you dont have to keep going back and forth to the gauge just to see the temp change. There are a ton of graphing functions that I want to try out on there since I imagine it could be a good way to track a bunch of data.

Does that count?

No, Torque is a phone app that lets you do engine diagnostics in addition to real time data collection. #straightman
